(#6) Getting started tips and tricks - Display Filter Toolbar

Tip #6 - Display Filter Toolbar

By default, this useful toolbar is hidden in the Editor view of Trados Studio 2009!

Make sure to make it available through the menu Views then Toolbars then checking  Display Filter. I recommend you check all five available toolbars, by the way.

The purpose of the display filter is to hide segments from the document you're working on, and then display only the segments matching your filter criterias.

Trados Studio 2009: display filter toolbar

You can decide to display:
  • segments with comments
  • duplicate segments
  • fuzzy matches
  • new translated content
  • 100% pretranslated content
  • all content
  • all segments
  • unconfirmed segments
And/or you can ask Trados Studio 2009 to show you segments containing a specific string of characters (e.g. if you want to see all segments with a specific term in order to check constistency in the target segments).

This filter can be applied to source segments or to target segments.

You can find out more in Trados Studio 2009 Help section.

For advanced users, note that the display filter supports regular expressions! I'll talk about that in a future post.

For those of you not familiar with regular expressions, note that in a future release of Trados Studio, more options will be available easily.
