Tip #5 - On Word files
You can adjust both filters to suit the needs of your translation.
Word 2000-2003 (.doc files)
Default settings will:
- extract all comments made in the Word document and have you translate them (they will of course be included in the wordcount)
- make hyperlinks fully accessible (i.e. considered as text)
I advise you to make some changes through menu Tools then Options then File types then Microsoft Word 2000-2003 and click on Other settings. You can browse the Help for more information on each setting, but most of you should make these three changes:
- uncheck Extract comments text for translation (unless of course you commonly translate the comments of the Word files)
- choose to Process hyperlinks with Extract only hyperlinks text. This will make only available to you the text of the hyperlink requiring translation, converting the actual URL to a tag for easier handling!
- check Process bookmarks as tag pairs instead of stand-alone tags.

Word 2007-2010 (.docx files)
Default settings will:
- make hyperlinks fully accessible (i.e. considered as text)
- treat symbol characters as inline placeholder tags (= stand-alone tags)
I advise you to make some changes through menu Tools then Options then File types then Microsoft Word 2007-2010 and click on Other settings. You can browse the Help for more information on each setting, but most of you should make this change:
